US President Donald Trump announced Saturday that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed during joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes inside Iran. In a statement, Trump said the operation marked the beginning of what he described as “major combat operations” targeting Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the nation, saying there are “growing signs” that Khamenei was killed when Israeli forces struck his compound early Saturday. Iran has not yet issued full confirmation of Khamenei’s death.
